Scientific Event on School Libraries held in Matanzas.
A creative space adapted to current scenarios became the Scientific Event on School Libraries held in the virtual modality from the headquarters of the Provincial Directorate of Education (DPE) in Matanzas.
With the presence of the Doctor in Pedagogical Sciences Raudel Cuba and the methodological team leading the activity, nearly 50 specialists presented a total of 18 papers representing various student institutions, educational levels and municipalities.
The school library as a complement to the educational teaching process, and its improvement, the role it plays in vocational orientation and training and its influence on the various programmes of preventive, political and ideological work carried out in the student centres were the main topics addressed in the exchange.
Barbara Herrera Zulueta, institutional communicator and in charge of the librarian activity in the DPE emphasised that due to the dedication and experience of the librarians in Matanzas, this province has achieved significant results in various school competitions, especially the Reading Martí competition, organised every year on a national scale.
Even with material limitations, school libraries contribute to the cognitive progress of students and favour the teaching-learning process. They also promote the development of vocabulary and the correct use of language, and stimulate the investigative spirit of the students.
Not only do they provide teachers and students with a bibliographic collection, but they also develop habits and skills by promoting reading, and become recreational spaces that contribute to the formation of aesthetic taste, values and an integral general culture in the new generations.
