Radio 26 – Matanzas, Cuba

Emisora provincial de Matanzas, Cuba, La Radio de tu Corazón

Santiago sends Matanzas to third place and puts pressure on Mayabeque.

After Sunday’s game Matanzas dropped back down one place in the standings from second to third place, and they are facing their direct rival Santiago de Cuba, who took the position behind Mayabeque and threatens to unseat the Huracanes from first place.

Matanzas was defeated 1×5 in a game in which both teams gave up seven hits and committed two errors each, only the eastern bats were more opportunistic and took advantage of the men on base to drive in the winning runs.

From the mound, Santiago’s Osvaldo Acuña took the victory, his second in the championship, while Matanzas’ Denis Quesada was defeated for the fifth time in the current contest. The Avispas’ batting standout was Carlos Monier, who hit his third round-tripper in the 62nd National Series.

Mayabeque and Santiago are now tied as leaders in the standings, although with the Hurricanes ahead.

On Monday 29 May, Cocodrilos and Avispas will meet again at 2:00 pm at the Guillermón Moncada stadium; it is still key for both to take advantage of this sub-series because they are direct rivals.
