The Telecommunications Company of Cuba SA, ETECSA, informs customers from Matanzas province the acceptance in its commercial network of the payment in local currency (CUP) of goods and services traded with prices in convertible pesos (CUC) according to the current exchange rate.
Edelys Barrios Pérez, a specialist marketing department of the Territorial Division ETECSA said:
“It started to be implemented in the company and the process takes several years of development in the country. From now on customers will pay in the two currencies. There are a variety of services that are included in this modality such as the sale of mobile lines and equipment, cards, internet services and mobile recharge. However, repairs are performed in the workshop after sales continue to be paid only in CUC. “
When customers say …
“… It is a very good measure because this one does not have to be walking around the city to change money. Even so I imagine that the procedures be speeded up here … “
“Very good, yes, very good. I think this is a step for the institution to increase the sale of services and makes them easier access to customers. “
Edelys Barrios confirmed the criterion of respondents and stated that this measure applies also intended to increase access to services.
With this exchange rate policy is met by Guideline 55 of economic and social policy of the Revolution and the Party. The implementation of this process gradually continue during the coming September in other business units, said the specialist.
“This requires the preparation, not only the staff but the systems with which they work. Telepoint began in Matanzas, Mobile Commercial Office in the city. This week will be extended to the rest of the business offices of the city and in September throughout the province. “
“I do not visit much this institution, but I imagine that if now the two currencies are accepted greater the influx of people here and that the care process be speeded up.”
“It’s great, because for example, I am stomatologist and I have no cuc and every time I had to come to any proceedings had to pay in that currency. He had first to go out, change money and then come here. Now everything is easier. “
On the preparation of personnel working directly with users Edelys Barrios added:
“The staff is prepared to face this change. Of course, there will always be doubts because when receiving the two currencies the process becomes more complex. Yet workers have been trained to avoid as many mistakes and they in turn advise the rest of the offices of the Territorial Division. “
In order to implement the changes required by the country ETECSA assumes this new modality. While acknowledging that much remains to be done, but this will be a measure to provide services to the population.
