Matanzas is preparing to offer an important contribution to the country in the Fourth Regional Explanatory Comparative Study (ERCE), an exercise that evaluates the quality of Cuban education regarding the experiences of Latin American and Caribbean nations.

Yanet Isasi Reyes, head of the Department of Primary Education in the province, told Radio 26:

“At the moment we are training to face the research that will focus on the third and sixth grade students, the managers of the sector, the family and the teachers. In the case of learners, we exercise them by means of systematic verifications of the Spanish Language subjects, with the writing and comprehension of texts; Mathematics and Natural Sciences. We also visit classes and study houses.

“Questionnaires are applied to teachers, principals and family members about the external factors that affect learning, which in some way is related to one of the novelties proposed by the improvement, by recognizing the influence of agents and agencies other than the school. and their traditional figures in the teaching process.

“The territory has a more immediate strategy based on direct advice to teachers in the municipalities. This has a very good acceptance, since it allows each teacher to have access to the printed materials necessary for their methodological preparation and the planning of the more developing and integral classes.

“The team is composed of provincial methodologists and directors of the different educational levels, who supervise daily and, mainly, help the teacher.”

As in its previous editions, in which Cuba obtained the best results, the Ministry of Education and the Unesco Regional Office of Education lead the activity for the area, with the technical assistance of the Latin American Laboratory for Quality Assessment of Education (LLECE).

In May, a pilot test will be carried out in schools selected by the regional institution that will measure the quality of the teaching-educational process on the eve of the definitive application of the ERCE in 2019.
