The Mexican Shaday Larios, creator of Microscopy Theater associated since 2012 with the Spanish company Hermanos Oligor, strives to take advantage of the documentary possibilities of the subject to take them to the stage, and before the call of the International Open Altar Meeting in the city of Matanzas, shares its knowledge and at the same time apprehends the peculiarities it finds in Cuba, where it recognizes a different scenario:
“I am an objectologist, I dedicate myself to studying the theater of animated forms and we are in Cuba to share the Theater of Documentary Objects Theater that presents the panorama of the theater of objects and its different lines of work, and then focus on what is the theater of documentary objects.
“Explains Shaday that the theater of documentary objects questions when an everyday object begins to be a document, and works with the idea of memory in the object and puts it on stage not as if it were alive, which is what the theater of puppets, but to value and rescue what life already has that figure itself.
“The objective of the exchange is to adapt to the context and generate a collective piece that addresses a topic that interests the people; it is a field of trial and error, we do not come to teach a technique, we come to share a view of the world, pay attention to the inestimable of the inanimate and see how to rescue it to be in a performance stage material or some other dynamic. The final work will be based on the material culture and the information that can be provided to us.
“We have found many peculiarities in Cuba, we are foreigners, we come from capitalism, and it is as if here the theater of objects existed in itself, in everyday life; It is very interesting for us to engage in dialogue and see how that which they live on a daily basis on the Island can become extra-daily on the stage and generate reflection.
“I think Cuba has a lot to contribute to the theater of capitalist objects in that waste society, of accelerated consumption in which we live; what we seek to rescue in the theater of objects there, is already given here.”
