The control of weeds and the productivity of sugarcane plantations is a priority in the recently initiated cold season in the province of Matanzas.
Problems such as the scarce availability of fuel and work with 21 of the 25 necessary herbicides influence a control level of only 56 percent, explained Alien Borges Álvarez, a specialist in sugarcane production.
In the months of May, June and July the fundamental objective is to guarantee the cleaning and integral fertilization of the soils. Sanitation, despite technical problems and delay of products, reaches 92 percent, added the specialist.
The measures favor the cultivation of the cane in function of the sugar fulfillment of the province with the expectations of continuing the work. The yield of the harvest in Matanzas remains within the average in Cuba. The projections in favor of the care and strengthening of the floors increase the possibilities of fulfilling the annual plan.
