A few months ago a team of journalists from Matanzas in the celebrations for the press day, visited the monumental Teatro Sauto, the flagship of Matanzas culture, to verify the status of the construction works and the process of completion.
On that visit, Kalec Acosta Hurtado, director of the institution, pointed out some issues that would end the long-awaited public of the Athens of Cuba. The press was able to know that the restoration had 97 percent of its originality.
It was an excellent achievement for builders and artists to enable Matanzas and tourists in general to enjoy one of the wonders of the nineteenth century that is still standing in Cuba with a high degree of purity.
At that time, the director said: “There are four major systems missing for completion, the lighting, the air conditioning, the sound system and the PGD system, which is the general control board of the theater. All these systems are contracted with COPEXTEL and are in the process of bringing them to the theater. We are waiting for a work schedule for these investment systems. Without them we cannot reopen the theater and we have no plans to do so until the last detail is completed. ”
This August 6th, the official website of the Facebook social network of the Performing Arts Council in Matanzas said that the first contact between programmers and promoters, artistic directors and selected artists has already been made and the first steps of what will be the inaugural show and the logistics that this first gala implies.
“A very serious first step after achieving its full functionality,” Kalec Acosta Hurtado described to our station in a telephone contact offered this week to Radio 26.
Acosta Hurtado confirmed that the Sauto is already completely able to open its doors to Matanzas, apparently they come to an end long years of collective suffering by dissimilar generations of Matanzas who miss the times when he became the driving force of the Cultural life of this city of rivers and bridges.
However, despite the happy news, they still do not declare an exact opening date or anticipate the main events and preparations that will take place on this happy day when Matanzas sees his main colosseum reborn again.
In an interview with Ana Valdés Portillo, Hurtado told reporters that for the initial gala: “You are working on a show directed by Rubén Darío Salazar Taquechel, current director of Teatro de las Estaciones, to recreate 15 important moments of this institution, and they are assessing the possibility of doing it only with artists from Matanzas, since they are the ones who truly deserve to be in the reopening of the theater and participate in that important act after being eight years crushing the hearts of many families and lovers of local heritage. ”
The truth is that in social networks there are not a few speculations and distorted news regarding the premiere of Sauto, which leads to misinformation and false expectations in the population, therefore it is essential to wait a while longer, that nothing will be regarding the length term that we have already waited for people in Matanzas.
The director of this wooden box, the one with the best acoustics in Latin America, said that the conditions are already created, it only remains to wait for the surprise and the “boom” that will generate the resurgence of our theater.
