Radio26.Cu – Matanzas, Cuba

The Radio Station of your Heart from Matanzas, Cuba

Remembrances of successes: the infants and youth of TV Yumurí.

In a tiny study of just three meters high and eight meters wide and nine meters long, TV Yumurí, a Matanzas telecenter, was inaugurated in December 1999, with a refreshing look at the provincial program, which could not missed children and young people.

To start the referral to the little ones, the talented director Jesús del Castillo was summoned, who created the puppeteer space I am happy, where a bee full of moral values interacted with other figurines with actress Fara Madrigal, in her famous character of the clown Maravilla. It was a very dear first experience in the original moments of the television.

But the aspirations were increased in a highly creative collective and followed by the one dedicated to youth television, the program Stay with me, director Yudarys Berland, which since its emergence monopolized the highest award at the National Telecentre Festivals and a stellar place in national programming, then under the baton of other directors such as Juan Carlos Migoya and Aurora López.

At that time a charming project was also conceived: My musical game, directed by Josefina Hernández and with the participation of two children, Adita and pixie, where Matanzas children sang and danced children’s pieces, a space broadcast for several years on the channel Educational and in Cubavision.

From 2002 there was a take-off on TV Yumurí towards the production of specialized programs in these segments and appear Barquito de Papel, by Jesús del Castillo, with puppets, actors and the clown Maravilla, recorded entirely in studio and considered the best participation program national, winner of national and international awards, along with Notitín, of the director and journalist Aurora López, led by children, also recipient of important national awards.

With the modernization of the digital technique and the possibility of creative editions it is produced under the direction of the fertile artist Yudarys Berland, The Magic Flute, a delicacy to learn classical music dedicated to children under five years old. The chiviritil airs out of its excellence, with an admirable rhythm and grace and the youthful only your heart knows, both with the performance of children and adolescents, who have monopolized the attention of national spaces and obtained numerous awards.

We want to make a highlight with the children’s program produced for a longer time by a telecenter, with a record of permanence on the National TV within the provincial offers, multiple successes and also numerous vicissitudes before the lack of resources to improve its scenery and the limited space where It is recorded.

That is why it highlights the titanic persistence of its director, Jesús Del Castillo, who with paper Barquito, introduced a theme not addressed in the nation that allows raising the level of knowledge of children about the geography of Cuba and the world, as well as to appreciate places of great historical, cultural, and ecological interest.

At the same time, it favors delicious passages with humorous tone that, as an objective, highlights the formation of values in childhood. It also performs participation games related to the marine theme that are organically linked to the audiovisual conception.

Among its awards are the Best program, Best screenplay and direction, the Popularity Award, recognition from the UNICEF office in Cuba and the Basque Country, as well as the Union of Young Communists and the Organization of Pioneers Jose Marti.

It has been reported that in Latin America it marks as the only one that deals with this theme with game and entertainment features. In an interview for the Cuban Television Portal, actress Fara Madrigal said: “From when the program began to date we have grown, both the director and the drivers.

Among the first ones along with me in the animation were Ángel Luis Cejas (Pepín), María Laura Germán (Titina), Amelia Flores (Marisol, the girl who came out of the snail) and Malena Castillo (Marina, the sailor). Now there is a new cast.

”   The realization of Paper Barquito reaches more than 800 transmissions, a ranking only reiterated by Stay with me, a space that constitutes a challenge not exceeded in its artistic conception and content within the television approach referred to the youth segment.

In these two decades of successes, the children’s and youth programming of TV Yumurí stands as a paradigm within the productions in Cuba, undertaken almost without resources and with a pure heart.
