In the first moments of the covid-19 pandemic, the province of Matanzas did not have its own Microbiology laboratory. The rapid test and real-time PCR samples had to be transferred to the province of Villa Clara and in some cases to Havana.
Moving such dangerous and fragile materials was challenging, as well as having a limited life span. For this work, about 43 taxis were mobilized in the province. The transfer, most of the time it was done without many complications, although sometimes some other mechanical thing failed and thanks to the ingenuity of these heroes it was solved in a matter of minutes.
The family, according to the taxi drivers themselves, was a fundamental pillar during this titanic task. The support of their relatives made it possible for them to continue driving days of more than six hours. They explain that when they got home they practically had to undress outside to prevent the clothes they were wearing from contaminating the family.
For this work, Cuban Trade Workers Union decided to flag the Workers of the Base Taxis Matanzas Business Unit with the banner of Labor Prowess, who provided their support to reduce the spread of covid-19 and accelerate the detection of the disease.
During the activity, the taxi drivers declared their support for the Revolution and their willingness to take on new tasks if necessary in favor of the health of Cubans.
The delegation will tour the province until it ends tomorrow, October 30th in Ciénaga de Zapata, to continue on the 31st through the province of Cienfuegos.
