Among the measures that came with the Economic Regulation initiated on January 1 of this year in Cuba, is the increase in the electricity tariff. Extremely subsidized and financed by the budget of the Cuban State, the energy consumption rate responds to the payment for a service of increasing demand in the residential sector.
Likewise, the demand has increased among those who belong to the non-state sector who often use electricity as a fundamental raw material for the development of their activity. To respond to this, the self-employed worker is offered the option of availing himself of a rate that allows him greater economic benefit, without having to raise the prices of the products or services offered to the people.
In Cuba, electricity is generated primarily with hydrocarbons, 80 percent imported, with the limitations that the blockade imposed by the United States on the island brings. Hence the intention to increase actions that contribute to saving electricity and rational use of energy.
