Potato harvest advances in Matanzas .

More than one hundred hectares of potatoes have been harvested this season with an average yield of 22.8 tons per hectare, as reported by Lázaro Jesús Bello, agricultural sub-delegate.

More than two thousand tons of the tuber have been commercialized, which represents nine percent of the estimated, added the director of the provincial Delegation of Agriculture. Agricultural work is currently carried out in the basic cooperative production units El Sordo, Rosita and Gispert.

Today the incorporation of Eladio Hernández is expected, where the seed potato is harvested. Four individual producers were also incorporated with the harvest of the so-called ecological potato, with the advice of the Indio Hatuey Pasture and Forage Experimental Station.

According to Lázaro Bello, agricultural sub-delegate, 1,400 hectares should be harvested in the territory and estimates foresee yields above 17 tons per hectare, depending on national or imported seed.
