In full development is the preparation of the fourth edition of the Matanzas 2021 Jazz Festival, which will take place from April 29th to May 2nd, with the participation of the most relevant of the jazz universe of the country and the province.
It will be dedicated to the memory of Sergio Pichardo and Chick Corea; to the centenary of the birth of Frank Emilio Flynn; to the 110th anniversaries of the birth of Arsenio Rodríguez and Armando Romeu; 45 after the death of Adolfo Guzmán; and Chucho Valdés’ 80th birthday.
In a special way, it is planned to highlight April 30th, International Jazz Day, according to the organizing committee chaired by maestro Miguel Ángel Rodríguez Zulueta, who has indicated that it is a space for the promotion, dissemination and development of Cuban jazz in its most diverse connotation, also encompassing symphonic, chamber and vocal music.
Due to the peculiarities of Matanzas, this musical encounter acquires significant signs due to the African antecedents of the territory, which is integrated into the characteristics of Cuban jazz in all its international scope.
The theme “El Jazz Saluda al Son” will be promoted for the commemoration of the tres player Ignacio de Loyola Rodríguez Scull, known worldwide as Arsenio Rodríguez, who was born in Güira de Macurijes in 1911.
The organizing committee is made up of Miguelón Rodríguez Zulueta, president; Alejandro Falcón, vice president; Leydet Garlobo González, general coordination; Lourdes Fernández Valhuerdi, Ileana Pinedo Navia, as well as Arsenio García and Diana Rosa Pérez, in technical collaboration and advice; Antonio Santovenia, general producer, plus Damián Castillo and Claudia Padrón, in graphic design and communication.
The fourth Festival Jazz Matanzas 2021 will offer concerts, conferences, talks, master classes, workshops for students, visual exhibitions, as well as presentations of books, records and videos on the digital platforms of Cuban cultural institutions and in the one enabled with his name.
