On the 60th anniversaries of the victory of Playa Girón and of the Words to the intellectuals, the literary crusade For this freedom is dedicated, with the participation of Matanzas writers, which will be available to Internet users on the digital platforms of the Provincial Directorate of Culture in Matanzas.
About the event, Efrahím Pérez Izquierdo, director of the Provincial Center for Book and Literature, speaks to us:
“The complexity of the pandemic forces us to postpone the planned march. The initial idea was to go from the Central Army to Girón; We then launched it online, therefore, we convened a representative meeting of poets who were exponents of revolutionary art and here we are ratifying our commitment to the Revolution.
“We are going to carry out this project, with a new motivation: the 95th anniversary of the birth of our Commander-in-Chief next August.
“The UNEAC social house has been the setting where the eleven intellectuals met. The verses were read by Isolina Bellas, Maylan Álvarez, Loreley Rebull, María Elena Bayón, Mae Roque, Nátali Hernández along with José Manuel Espino, Orismay Hernández, as well as Daneris Fernández, Alfredo Zaldívar and Pablo G. Lleonart, who launched their love song to the Homeland and our symbols of rebellion and national independence. “
Also present, Osbel Marrero Acosta, provincial director of Culture, and members of the presidencies of UNEAC and the Hermanos Saíz Association in the province, among other leaders.
The Matanzas publishing house produced a plaquette entitled 60 × 60, with texts by prominent Cuban intellectuals as a commemorative document for Girón’s deed and in greeting to the eighth Party Congress.
