After a year without commercial operation between Russia and the Matanzas resort, this Sunday the charter company Azur linked the international airports of Moscow-Domodedovo and Juan Gualberto Gómez, the second most important air terminal in Cuba.

The 520 Russian vacationers traveled hand in hand with the tour operator Anex Tours, in the first of seven flights announced to land at the aerodrome of this western province, where the biosafety protocols were exactly complied with, said José Antonio García Manso, director of the unit. business base of the aerodrome.

Thanks to the reestablishment of this operation, visitors to the Eurasian nation will return to the main Cuban enclave of sun and beach, their preferred leisure destination in the Greater Antilles, from where they were arrested due to COVID-19.

Precisely, in the last five years, the Russian market stands out as the most dynamic in the increase of its tourist flows to Varadero, to the point of ending 2019 with 38 percent growth. This upward pace in the reception of Russian travelers at the famous Blue Beach was maintained until March 2020, the month of the arrival of Sars Cov 2 to the Antillean country, the closure of the Cuban borders and the forced stoppage of tourist operations.

Russia is the guest of honor at the 40th edition of FITCuba, the most important professional event in the Cuban tourism industry, moved from its May 2020 date as a result of the new coronavirus and its global impact on the travel industry.

Varadero, located on the Hicacos peninsula on the north coast of the Matanzas territory, has 52 hotels and some 22 thousand rooms, accommodation capacity to which is added its diverse non-hotel network, especially nautical options, highly demanded by the Russian market.
