The Provincial Council of Visual Arts in Matanzas and the Lorenzo Padilla Díaz Foundation convene the Drawing and Painting Contest for children and young people, on the occasion of the 90 years of the prestigious Matanzas artist and collector, on September 18th.
Padilla, Provincial Prize of Plastic Arts 2020, is recognized for his pictorial art and his donation to the Museum of Art of the Athens of Cuba of more than 500 artistic pieces of remarkable value, belonging to various African nations.
The contest rules establish that infants and adolescents up to 16 years of age, residents of the city of Matanzas, may participate with works in free format and technique.
The works will be delivered to the Pedro Esquerré provincial gallery in the mornings, identified on the back with the name and communication channels of the contestant.
The contest ends on August 31st of this year. Two main prizes and three mentions per category will be awarded.
It is worth highlighting in the trajectory of Lorenzo Padilla that he graduated from the Academia Tarascó in Matanzas city. Later, he enters the School of Fine Arts in which he finishes his studies in 1957, with the title of professor of drawing and painting. Due to his results, in 1959 he obtained a scholarship to study at the Museo de Arte del Prado, in Madrid.
Later he moved to Paris, where he continued his artistic life. He has received various decorations and recognitions such as Distinguished Son of the City of Matanzas, in 1990; the Distinction for National Culture, 2006; and the French Senate Medal, in 2012.
