With the explanation of the new protocols to face the critical epidemiological situation in Matanzas, the provincial director of Public Health, Dr. Ailuj Casanova Barreto, appeared at a press conference.

The territory has the necessary resources for timely diagnosis and treatment in the face of the high contagion rate that today exceeds 10,000 active cases of Covid-19, the directive explained. Work is done on the completion of the staff of the family doctor and nurse’s offices so that the primary care receives, classifies and decides the conduct to follow with each patient.

In this way, the hospitals that today have a saturation of their capacities would be decongested, despite the increase in beds and facilities available for assistance.

Casanova Barreto assured that there are sufficient antigen tests in the province to supply the current demand and that new spaces will be enabled for their performance, especially in the places furthest from the polyclinics.

For his part, Mario Sabines Lorenzo, Governor of Matanzas, explained that the capacity of the molecular biology laboratory has been increased with a new extractor that allows the process of more than two thousand tests and a high-precision sum equipment that also increases coverage.
