City Foundation 2023 Award Ceremony begins.
The event for the Literary Prize City Foundation 2023, to be held this year from October 6th to 8th, is characterized by an intense program and the participation of relevant intellectuals of the country, in addition to the presence of the winners of the contest.
Dedicated to the National History Award, Urbano Martinez Carmenate and the 330th anniversary of Matanzas, under the auspices of the Provincial Center of Books and Literature, the event will feature round tables on the progress of this art form in the country and the recognition of important figures, headed by Jorge Fornet, Arturo Arango, Zaida Capote and Alex Fleites.
Its organizer, National Publishing Award winner Alfredo Zaldívar, director of Ediciones Matanzas, pointed out that on the 6th, the guests will be received in the morning and then at the Casa de las Letras Digdora Alonso, where the publishing house is located, at 2:00 p.m. there will be an Opinion Table dedicated to the work of Martínez Carmenate. Caridad Contreras, Derbys Domínguez, Silvia Hernández Godoy and Alfredo Zaldívar will participate, while the moderator will be writer Maylan Álvarez.
A Mixed Coffee, dedicated to Arturo Arango, his work and memories of Matanzas will take place at 5:30 pm at the Social House of the UNEAC. Music, poetry, dance, theater, auctions and raffles are guaranteed.
Saturday 7th promises a promising day, as it starts at the Casa de las Letras Digdora Alonso at 9:30 a.m. with a lecture by Urbano Martinez Carmenate, entitled La literatura en Matanzas a 330 años de la fundación de la ciudad (Literature in Matanzas 330 years after the founding of the city).
At 11:00 a.m., Jorge Fornet, Zaida Capote and Arturo Arango, Alina Lopez and Maria Antonia Borroto will give a talk on the current panorama of essays in Cuba. The moderator will be Carlos Molina.
In the afternoon, the 45 years of Ediciones Matanzas and its magazine will be highlighted through an analysis by Arturo Arango, Caridad Contreras, Yunier Riquenes, Jorge Fornet, Jacqueline Méndez and Alfredo Zaldívar. In addition, magazines No. 2 and 3 of 2022 will be presented by Beatriz Ferreiro and Maylan Álvarez.
A special moment will take place at 4:00 pm with a poetry recital in the voices of Alex Fleites, Rigoberto Rodríguez Entenza, Maylan Álvarez, Leymen Pérez, Yunier Riquenes, Milho Montenegro and the conduction of Náthaly Hernández Chávez.
In the evening, there will be the presentation of the digital version of the novel No me preguntes cuándo, by Arturo Arango, and the screening of an audiovisual presentation about the award-winning author at the Teatro Mirón Cubano.
At 11:00 pm the entourage will enjoy the play Baracutey, staged by Teatro El Portazo.
The closing ceremony will be held on Sunday at the Sauto Theater, National Monument, with the presentation of the 2021 and 2022 prize-winning books and the awarding of the 2023 Fundación de la Ciudad prizes in the poetry, novel and essay genres.
A special event will be the presentation of the 2023 City Foundation Honorary Award to Urbano Martínez Carmenate.
The classical duo of Elvira Santiago on the piano and Dayán Mirabal on the cello will perform as a gift to the day.
This is how the day will be celebrated for the City Foundation Award, a tribute to the 330th anniversary of the founding of Matanzas, the 25th anniversary of Ediciones Aldabón and the 45th anniversary of Ediciones Matanzas and its award-winning magazine.
