Breastfeeding week begins in Pedro Betancourt.

With a fruitful exchange on health and wellbeing of pregnant women and their babies, the workers of the Pedro Betancourt Municipal Maternity Home began their program of activities in celebration of World Breastfeeding Week.

Yaíma Borges Herrera, municipal official of the Maternal and Infant Care Program, stated that this week becomes a stimulus to train the population on the potential of exclusive breastfeeding, and she pointed out the need to promote its practice from the health systems, communities and work centers.

Likewise, Maricet Reyes Fernández, doctor of the local Maternity and Infant Home, acknowledged the priority attention given to pregnant women and the main proposals of the institution to celebrate this World Week.

Borges Herrera also highlighted the positive indicators of the people of Betancourt regarding the Mother and Child Care Program and urged to redouble the educational work and the support of the people to breastfeeding mothers.

World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated every year from August 1st to 7th in more than 170 countries around the world with the support of the World Health Organization, the United Nations Children’s Fund and other political and social organizations in pursuit of the fulfillment of the essential rights of motherhood.
