The high recognition, which belongs to the system of stimulus and decorations, was awarded at a ceremony held the day before at the San Severino Castle, in the presence of the main political and governmental authorities of the province, and where workers and other groups received similar honors.

Thus, the facility operated by Cubanacán and the Spanish chain Iberostar crowns a performance marked by relevant results in the tourism and trade union fields, among other achievements that reinforce its leadership inside and outside the Greater Antilles.

The human quality of its men and women distinguish the daily management of the Iberostar Selection Varadero hotel, which is a favorite among vacationers who choose Cuba’s main beach resort.

After placing the medal on the Vanguardia Nacional flag, they greeted Carlos Miguel López and Osvaldo Peña, secretary general of the trade union bureau, the first secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Party, Mario Sabines Lorenzo, and the Hero of Labor of the Republic of Cuba Juan Carlos Martín Tirado, director of the Mario Muñoz Monroy military hospital.

It is a great satisfaction that such consecrated groups as this one obtain this medal, as a reward for a performance of excellence in the economic and social fields, in that link with the community.

Carlos Miguel López Reyna, deputy general manager for the Cuban part of the hotel founded in December 2004, attributed the new success to the dedication and professionalism of those who work there and their management teams at all levels.

It is a commitment to continue improving the quality of the services provided and to contribute what is needed by a country that can continue to count on Iberostar Selection Varadero, despite the difficult conditions imposed by the U.S. blockade for tourism, he said.

Among the many awards won by this Iberostar are the Flag for the 85th anniversary of the founding of the Central de Trabajadores de Cuba, and having been National Vanguard for several years, including this 2025, for the results of the previous year.

It has also received awards such as the Top Hotel Partner for 2022 operations, and the Silver International Sustainability Certification, issued by EarthCheck International, a world leader in consulting, scientific benchmarking and certification.

The Iberostar Selection Varadero is the second hotel to receive the Jesús Menéndez Medal, the high decoration previously awarded to the Royalton Hicacos Hotel, also operated by the Cubanacán hotel group.
