MINTUR Matanzas highlights the contribution of its workers to food production.

Nastia Valdés, delegate of the Ministry of Tourism (MINTUR) in Matanzas province, highlighted the significant contribution of the workers of Cuba’s main beach resort to food production, with contributions on weekends or labor changes from Monday to Friday.

«The strength and spirit of tourism workers shine in the volunteer work at the Cardenas zeoponic,» Valdes posted on his Facebook social network, after praising this Sunday’s contribution of collectives from several facilities.

The labor force of this leisure industry has been fundamental in the recovery of the important food source that is the zeoponic, where its 744 quarries are in production.

The contributions of tourism to food production are not limited only to this type of support. In many of the hotels there are organopónicos created by the workers themselves to lower the bill and harvest fresh vegetables or aromatic herbs, an idea that materialized during the sanitary crisis caused by Covid-19 and that has in Varadero the Meliá Internacional as its best example.

Maylén Alemañy, general secretary of the provincial Hotel and Tourism Union, praised the dedication and altruism of the men and women of this sector, which will celebrate its Day on March 4th, convinced of how much more can be done for the efficiency and quality in the provision of services.

Alemañy added as outstanding notes of the human stature of Varadero’s employees the community support, the blood donations and the delivery of gifts to children from Cárdenas’ home without family shelter and from special schools.
