About to celebrate its third anniversary, the Matanzas Science and Technology Park is fulfilling the objectives of contributing to the policy of informatization of society, outlined by the country’s top management until the year 2030.
Cientex, the park’s official acronym, operates as a Cuban corporation, in which more than 22 units made up of information and communications companies, the Camilo Cienfuegos University and the provincial government seek to integrate efforts in the creation of tools and infrastructure for the digital management of the territory and electronic government.
Based on Decree Law 363 of 2019 and the previous experience in the province of a project initiated since 2017, the institution is officially created on November 19th, 2020. It has since its inception with the support of the National Union of Computer Scientists in the recruitment of qualified professionals to integrate a workforce with high added value.
Among the projects managed by the Cientex is the Sports Intelligence Suit, in collaboration with the Cuban Sports Research Center, to capture data on the performance of athletes and their subsequent analysis in order to better manage training and strategies, with eight sports already incorporated so far.

The institution aims to be the bridge between the academic sectors of the University, research centers and the business sector, where the economic actors of the territory can present their ideas and a technical advisory board approves them, and then a schedule of execution and signing of contracts is established, closing a cycle of technological innovation with the resources present in the country.
