Matanzas group Rumba Timba wins award at Cubadisco 2023.
The audiovisual Sueños, by filmmakers Gabriel Carrera and Diosdado Enier Ramos Aldazábal, «Figurín», inspired by the trajectory of the young Matanzas group Rumba Timba, was the winner in the Musical Documentary category at Cubadisco 2023.
The material, in 30 minutes, exposes the commitment of the La Marina neighbourhood to the rumba tradition and highlights the legacy contributed to the young group by its predecessors: Los Muñequitos de Matanzas, a group that reached seven decades of existence.
In an exclusive interview for this media from the Social House of the UNEAC, where they were received by José Manuel Espino, president, and Leo García Ramos, first vice-president of the Yumurina branch, the director of Los Muñequitos, Diosdado Ramos Cruz, full of pride for the new generation, said:
«It has been great, because it is a sign of the good work that has been done for a lifetime, of continuity, of passion for our roots. It is a prize achieved by the young people, our children and grandchildren, those who have been in Los Muñequitos for decades and thanks to the strength we have achieved in our families, the tradition is kept alive».
Likewise, the representative of the septuagenarian rumbero group, Alfredo Smith offered details of the award-winning work saying:
«Sueños is about the story of the boys who were born with our group and how they think and explain the new variants of their group that, without losing the essences, responds to the trends of youth. They were also nominated in the categories of Opera Prima, Production and Design, under the banner of the Bismusic label and a CD was recorded. Many successes for Rumba Timba».
The first awards gala of the International Music Industry Fair Cubadisco 2023 was held at the Meliá Cohíba and the second, which will be attended by the Matanceros, will be this Saturday at the Avellaneda Hall of the National Theatre.
Both artists announced that the Peña La Rumba su yo, at the Casa Social de la UNEAC, next Tuesday 16 at four in the afternoon , will celebrate the event and there will be surprises.
