National History Seminar held at the University of Matanzas.
The Second National Seminar on History, Marxism-Leninism was held at the University of Matanzas with the aim of exchanging information on the main tools used in the classroom to teach this subject, as well as the advantages of the new training in this field.
Achieving higher quality in Cuban history classes by using teaching aids to motivate young people, promoting local history, the scarce pool of professionals in the area and their constant training in the subject were the main issues addressed.
«The main challenge facing teachers in the classroom is the lack of alternative media, but it is also necessary to find new ways to capture the interest of students, including visits to places of historical interest, exchanges between combatants and students, and the telling of anecdotes,» said Benito Lauzado Ramírez, a teacher at the Enrique Hart Dávalos pre-university.
Among the agreements adopted at the end of the meeting were to improve the quality of the teaching staff, to offer research topics related to educational content in order to provide solutions to current problems, and how to communicate and disseminate the life and work of Fidel Castro Ruz.
