Backlog of spring campaign in Matanzas.

The current spring planting in the province of Matanzas, which takes place from March to August, has presented difficulties ranging from lack of fuel for agricultural work, to problems with the seed.

This has affected important agricultural processes such as ploughing, preparation and preparation of the land.

In a recent meeting it was explained the need to finish the so-called spring campaign in which priority is given to short cycle or rustic crops, such as cassava, sweet potato, plantain, among others.

In the coming days, 420 hectares should be planted under irrigation machines and thus change the panorama of the current planting.

For several years, farmers from all sectors – state, peasant and cooperative – have been promoting various crops in the province of Matanzas, with emphasis on rustic crops.

Carlos Luis Naranjo Suárez, delegate of Agriculture in Matanzas, called to take advantage of the crop areas to increase the contribution of viands such as plantain, cassava, sweet potato and malanga.

Agriculture is a priority sector and food production is a national security issue in Cuba.
