On Monday night, the Sancti Spíritus Roosters handed the Matanzas Crocodiles their second defeat in a row in the particular sub-series between both teams, and the fourth consecutive one in this beginning of the Elite Baseball League of Cuba.
On this occasion, the team led by Armando Ferrer was defeated by the minimum 4-3.
Once again the offense was not very productive, they hit 12 hits, but scored only three runs, leaving nine runners in circulation, for a total of 27 in the last three games.
For the roosters, starter Yunier Mendoza had two hits and two runs batted in, in addition to catcher Lázaro Ponce and outfielder Yaser Julio González who drove in the remaining two runs.
The victory went to starter Ariel Zerquera, now with a 2-1 record, while Yanielquis Duardo earned his first save of the season.
Matanzas used four pitchers, but it was the closing pitcher, Frank Luis Medina, who took the loss after allowing the last two runs scored by the Espirituanos.
Tonight, the Cocodrilos and Gallos will meet again at the José Antonio Huelga de Sancti Spíritus, specifically at 6:30 pm.
The Matanzas, now in fourth place in the standings, are in need of a victory to get out of their negative streak.
