Emisora provincial de Matanzas, Cuba, La Radio de tu Corazón

AHS Cuerda Viva Award to Rumba Timba.

The group Rumba Timba from Matanzas received the Collateral Award of the Hermanos Saíz Association at the 21st Cuerda Viva 2023 Festival, for its contributions to the rescue and contemporaryization of rumba.

The diploma certifying the award, which recognizes this genre, declared Intangible Heritage of Humanity, was signed by Rafael González Muñoz, national president of the AHS.

The young group responds to the commitment with the rumba tradition of the La Marina neighborhood and highlights the legacy of its predecessors: Los Muñequitos de Matanzas, a group that has been in existence for more than seven decades.

It is worth remembering that at the last Cubadisco, held in May this year, the audiovisual Sueños, by filmmakers Gabriel Carrera and Diosdado Enier Ramos Aldazábal, inspired by the career of Rumba Timba, was the winner in the Musical Documentary category.

The great Rumba players from Matanzas have expressed their satisfaction, because it is a sign of the good work that has been done for a lifetime, of continuity, of passion for our roots. It is yet another award achieved by the young people, children and grandchildren of those who represent Los Muñequitos and thanks to that strength, the tradition is kept alive.

Now, one of the objectives of the Cuerda Viva Festival, which accompanies the Cuban television program of the same name, is to give visibility to the alternative scene of the Antillean nation, a concept that has been extended to practically all genres of music; and Matanzas obtained its award with the Rumba Timba group, which is about to celebrate the anniversary of the founding of this beautiful city.
