With a significant evolution over several decades, La Terraza de Cojímar, the emblematic site founded on May 20th, 1925, under the name of Las Arecas, located on the Calzada Real de la Reina Isabel II, has reached a century of existence.

Originally conceived as a modest inn for fishermen and passers-by, in 1940 it adopted the name La Terraza, gaining over time a special place in the collective memory, in part thanks to its link with the famous American writer Ernest Hemingway, highlights the Facebook profile of Empresa Extrahotelera Palmares S.A.

Known for his love of fishing and the sea, it is said that Hemingway, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature, used to frequent the restaurant, where he would enjoy a drink and share stories with Gregorio Fuentes, the skipper of his boat.

This gave notoriety to a place famous for its exquisite seafood cuisine, highlighting dishes such as paella and fisherman’s soup, as well as emblematic cocktails such as the Don Gregorio and the Daiquiri, the publication added.

It assures that with its rich history and gastronomic offerings, La Terraza continues to be a meeting place for friends and lovers of good food, celebrating a legacy that endures over time.

The date, unsurprisingly, called for revelry. The tribute ceremony recognized the work of workers Eiden Guillart Roque, Iván Morgadov Castro and Doris Pared Arteaga, who over the years have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the values and essence of La Terraza.

The general director of Empresa Extrahotelera Palmares S.A., Lázaro Darién Casabella Hernández, gave special recognition on behalf of the entity he represents, in reward for the dedication and love that these workers have put into their work.

A commemorative plaque in honor of this centenary was unveiled in the presence of Luis Ramírez Pino, delegate of the Ministry of Tourism in Havana, Víctor Lemagne Sánchez, director of the Palmares Este Extrahotel Branch, and Yaima Cepeda Pérez, general secretary of the Provincial Union of Hotel and Tourism Workers, among other government representatives.
