Distinguished Matanzas’ doctors in Pedro Betancourt (+photos and audio)
Pedro Betancourt was awarded the distinction of Integral Municipality for its favorable results during the period.
The «Dr. Cesáreo Sánchez Gómez» polyclinic of Pedro Betancourt municipality became the venue for the provincial ceremony for the 40th anniversary of the creation of the Family Doctor and Nurse Program.
With the presence of members of the provincial and local Health Directorates and authorities from different political and mass organizations, the town was awarded the recognition of Integral Municipality for its results in terms of Primary Health Care and the zero infant mortality rate registered, among other indicators.
The keynote speech was delivered by Arlén González Luis, member of the Municipal Bureau of the Party, who, in addition to praising the legacy of the Commander in Chief as founder of the Program, praised the work of Cuban doctors both inside and outside the country.

Dr. Magaly Cárdenas (right) was honored for her meritorious work in the service of health care in the territory.
Likewise, several professionals who initiated the Family Doctor and Family Nurse Program, as well as those with meritorious performance in the sector, were also honored. Among them, Dr. Magaly de la Caridad Cárdenas Sastre, specialist in General Comprehensive Medicine and Psychiatry and winner of the «Manuel Piti Fajardo» award for her 20 years of uninterrupted work, shared her feelings with our radio station.

Founded on January 4th, 1984, the Family Doctor and Nurse Program is one of the Island’s most important initiatives to increase and maintain medical coverage in neighborhoods, communities and rural areas, promote intersectoriality and social participation in preventive and educational work for the population, and raise the quality of comprehensive and family medical care.
The event was enlivened by artists from the «María Villar Buceta» municipal cultural center.
The event was also attended by health professionals from other localities of the province, as well as representatives of political and mass organizations and people in general.
