Matanzas agriculture prepared for hurricane Idalia.

The agricultural system of the province of Matanzas is preparing to minimize possible damages after the passage of the hydrometeorological phenomenon Idalia, close to the western region of the island.

Although the forecast models do not point out the Matanzas territory as the one with the greatest impact, precipitations that could create emergency situations are foreseen.

For these reasons and thanks to the extensive work of the Civil Defense, animals were moved from the lowlands to the highlands and all measures are being taken to protect the young from hypothermia.

Likewise, we are also securing the shelters and warehouses for the strong winds and protecting inputs and production that could be affected by the rainfall.

The measures also include the collection of more than 31 agricultural products close to harvest and their rapid transfer to the markets.

The main objective of the Civil Defense is to protect the population and its property, as well as the national economy against the actions and means of destruction of the enemy and in the event of natural disasters or other types of damage.
