National Day for Oil Workers’ Day concludes.

As an award to those who overcome difficulties in the daily life of their work groups,  Joel Queipo Ruiz, member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and head of its Economic and Productive Department, presented the Ñico López medal, martyr of the Oil Workers Sector, to men and women with 20 and 25 years of uninterrupted work in the Fuels Trading Company, respectively.

Yarianna Guerra González, general director of the Company, said that its 3,870 workers work in challenging conditions, and despite this, they double their efforts to fulfill tasks such as the distribution of liquefied gas to the population, and the wholesale and retail sale of fuel.

One of the most emotional moments of the ceremony took place when founder Andrés Ávalo, a specialist in the distribution of petroleum products, and Jorge Barrows, an outstanding innovator, received the Petroleros por Cuba award from Néstor Pérez Franco, director of Empresa Cuba Petróleo.

Oil Workers’ Day is celebrated on 1st July in remembrance of the fact that on that day in 1960 Esso Standard Oil was intervened after refusing to process Soviet crude oil and closing the access road to its facilities, in clear violation of the Mining Law in force at that time.
