A call to planetary consciousness.
With the purpose of sensitizing the global community about its importance and the need to promote environmental protection, we celebrate World Ecology and Ecologists Day every November 1st.
Defined as the branch of biology that studies the relationships and interactions between living beings and their environment, ecology has established itself as a fundamental scientific discipline for the understanding and protection of the natural world around us. By encompassing physical, chemical and biological aspects of the environment, it has contributed to the identification of ecological patterns and processes that are vital for the conservation of biodiversity and the sustainability of ecosystems.
Precisely for the purpose of sensitizing the global community to its importance and the need to promote environmental protection, we celebrate World Ecology and Ecologists’ Day every November 1, a date instituted in 1979 by the Spanish Ecologist Confederation to raise awareness among the nations of the world regarding joint reflection and action in favor of the balance and conservation of nature.
In a social context in which humanity has to face the negative impact and imminence of unprecedented environmental challenges such as the loss of biological diversity, pollution and climate change, it is urgent to implement concrete and effective policies that, with the constant linkage and action of the different countries, favor the safeguarding of our Big House.
From the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and the preservation of ecosystems, to the promotion of renewable energies, the sustainable management of natural resources and, mainly, environmental education, among others, are actions that, together with the development of innovative technologies and international cooperation, will contribute to mitigate the effects of the aforementioned problems.
The largest of the Antilles, recognized for its rich biodiversity and its commitment to ecological praxis, advocates a prudent and sustainable administration of natural resources and, at the same time, stands out for its experience in balancing its economic progress with the conservation of the natural heritage that shapes it and becomes, in this scenario, testimony to the power of collective collaboration in the subsistence of planet Earth.
The World Day of Ecology and Ecologists calls, in essence, for planetary awareness and joint action in favor of the environment, establishing, in turn, the responsibility and shared effort of civil society as guarantees to enhance the health of the globe in the present and ensure the sustainability of those who will inhabit it in the future.
