A new society in a new Matanzas.

An event on Sociology of Gender, sponsored by the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of the University of Matanzas and offered by Susana Martín Traura and Juan Antonio Rodríguez del Pino, educators from the University of Valencia, recently culminated.

The aim of the event was to encourage the debate on very demanding topics nowadays, such as the feminism argument, the new masculinities and others.

The summer course, held at the bar La Gruta del San Juan, located in the busy Narváez Street, was attended by professors and students from the University of Matanzas, as well as from the University of Medical Sciences and master’s degree students of Social and Community Development.

The phenomenon of feminism was discussed about its different currents and forms of manifestation, as well as the trends in the study of masculinities and the importance of understanding them and observing how they are presented.

The workshop closed with the reasoning of a document that invited those present to reflect on the patriarchal society that is machismo and which are the expressions we know of it.

«It is essential to take into account what attitudes we should adopt when working on this issue that will never cease to be valid in our society,» explained Odalis Alberto Santana, dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of the University of Matanzas.

It is worth mentioning that after the meetings at the popular establishment, the project leaders encouraged the participants to visit different places in the city that they should know and, at the same time, they developed another series of group dynamics that encourage the study of such important topics as those covered in the course.
