Day of the Economist and Accountant: Che as a guide (+audio)
Today is celebrated in Cuba the Day of the Economist and the Accountant, because on November the 26th, but in 1959, Comandante Ernesto Guevara was appointed president of the National Bank of Cuba.
As defined by science, an economist is a person who studies and analyzes both the causes and consequences of economic phenomena involving costs and benefits in order to structure, interpret and elaborate models.
Within the field of economic sciences there are theories for the study of specific markets, macroeconomic, microeconomic and financial statement analysis, as well as study methods and tools such as econometrics, statistics, computational, financial and mathematical models.
On this day, it is essential to remember the economic thinking of Che, about whom the Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz in the central act for the 20th anniversary of the Heroic Guerrilla’s fall in combat, held in the city of Pinar del Río on October 8th, 1987, stated: «(…) Che had truly profound, courageous, audacious ideas, which departed from many beaten paths».
In the context that Cuba is living today, the role of economists and accountants is based on that premise: not to follow hackneyed formulas and to apply their skills for the benefit of society.
Likewise, today is a day of recognition and homage to these professionals, even though the celebration should not only occupy one day, but should be the constant support to such an important work.
