Did you see the photos at the top of this article? That was until not long ago the Maternity Hospital of Matanzas and after the decision to close it and move its services to another facility it became a dump.

A few days ago, forces of the Ministry of the Interior sanitized and mopped up the place, which was left as you can see in the illustration, clean, at least on the outside. A commendable work that this institution has done in several places in different municipalities of Matanzas.

I hope that now, after seeing that others took care of their show of disrespect towards a building in which most of the Matanceros who live today were born or gave birth there, they will accept to live well and respect the law, directive or orientation, whatever they want to call it, which indicates that everyone must deposit the waste in front of their house.

However, not everything is good, since we learned that there is now a family doctor’s office and the Genetics Laboratory of the province is being built there.

I don’t think those services are enough to give such a large building a real use value that would slow down its total deterioration and conversion into a micro or macro landfill. And, from what I have been able to find out so far, there are no other plans for the property, at least for the time being.

If memory serves me correctly, at the time it was decided to close it, there was talk of a total remodeling to take advantage of all the possibilities it has.

I have learned from local neighbors that they have already stolen a lot of sanitary furniture and other goods from the premises and that even the windows are starting to be torn out to use the wood.

It is a very good idea to do the cleaning we talked about at the beginning, but if someone does not take care of it for the time being, and it does not become useful again, we will soon see it turned into a garbage dump again.
