Magaly Bernal will have to be evoked many times, there behind the microphones of the dramático, in the anecdotes of transcendental events such as the funeral honors of the heroic guerrilla, or in each page of the history of this radio station. We must always return to Magaly Bernal when we talk about theater, radio and children.
Every December 12th the world celebrates the International Children’s Day of Broadcasting, and on this particular date we, the people of Matanzas who knew her, think of her. It is inevitable to evoke her voice in the character of Grandma Tita, the one who colored many of our dawns and helped us grow a little more sensitive and human.
«Happiness can be found in the smile of a child, in the chirping of a mockingbird, in the colors of the rainbow, in the flight of a butterfly, in love, in friendship, in a caress, in a kiss», that was the happiness that Magaly Bernal always drew for children with her magical voice capable of remedying everything.
She told us a few months before leaving for eternity, that sometimes outside the radio she would hide to do the voices of her characters and that the little ones would look for her; and that on one occasion she was somehow the medicine for a little girl with health problems.
She loved so much what she did and she always did it so well that we end up missing her laughter in the ether, her advice of a mischievous magician capable of interpreting up to nine voices in the same space, whether they were novels, peasants or humorous.
Whether she was a newscast announcer or interpreting one of her children’s characters, such as La tía Magalys, el güije Tintineo, among many others, the actress showed the same commitment. And she made a great effort as if each performance was her first, but she never hid the fact that children’s programs were her favorite.
«Working for children has another charm, another dimension»- she confessed and perhaps trapped in the mystery of an audience so grateful and sincere Magaly became that eternal child who dreamed of the radio to give the little ones a sea of joy. That is why it is worthwhile to feel her alive, to still learn from what she bequeathed to us. Undoubtedly, Magaly Bernal will always be remembered.
