Marti’s thought on Saturday Book.

The power of music together with literature, in moments of veneration to the Apostle of Cuba, adorned the Saturday Book Saturday space, whose echoes reach this January the 28th, date of the 171st anniversary of the birth of José Martí when his breath exceeded the frames of the bookstore El Pensamiento to flutter between the ceiba of the park La Rueda, in the historic center of the Athens of Cuba.

The appointment called for the promotion of the book of essays Pillars Extended, by Daniel Céspedes Góngora, published by Matanzas Editions, a study on José Martí, in his charisma as an art critic, journalist, writer and other aspects that characterized his enormous human wisdom.

The writer Daniel Cruz announced the author of the prologue of the text, the writer Alfredo Zaldívar, National Publishing Award, who before the dialogue, invited the singer Olga Margarita Muñoz and the guitarist Mayito Guerrero to interpret pieces related to Martí, with a flamenco touch added by the prestigious musician.

It began with the poems set to music by Rita del Prado, Los dos príncipes, La bailarina española and La perla de la mora, and the works emerged with such sweetness and emotion that a feeling of deep love for the one who wrote those verses took hold of those present.

Zaldívar spoke of the importance of the book, which profiles the universal man, the transcendent thinker of epochs that has repercussions in the 19th century as well as in the 21st.

«The whole notebook revolves around Martí and even when they are crossed writings, they have their own foundation and raison d’être. This is how the author evaluates his chosen one as the ancestor of modernity and endorses his poetic essences, without contradicting the chimera of freedom, of independence that the exceptional patriot always raised».

Then music reigned again. This time with two songs composed by Del Prado inspired by Nené Traviesa and La muñeca negra, each one underlining Marti’s message of humanity, tenderness, with the yearning to love others regardless of race or frontiers, each one «embroidered» with the exquisiteness of an unmistakable timbre together with the harmonious arpeggio of the guitar.

Organized by the Provincial Center of Books and Literature, this Book Saturday became a revered tribute to the man who has been on the path of Cubans for more than a century.
