The province of Matanzas joined the national mourning and patriotic duty today, Friday, January 16th, with the Operation Honor and Glory ceremony, held in La Vigía Plaza starting at 8:00 a.m.
With the Courage of Reason Now, in his home, in the land of rivers and bridges, rest the immortal remains of Colonel Osorio, so that his brother nation may pay him tribute. The people of Matanzas gather in Plaza de la Vigía to pay tribute to the fallen. Before the remains of Colonel Orlando Osoria López and the photos of his 31 comrades, the people of Yumurí, with sorrow, pay homage, observe a moment of silence, and express their pride.
In an atmosphere of solemnity and respect, Party and Government authorities in the province, representatives of political and mass organizations, veterans, family members, and the general public paid tribute to the internationalist fighters, reaffirming the values of honor, dignity, solidarity, and revolutionary commitment that have historically distinguished the Cuban nation.
During the ceremony, the example of those who gave their lives in defense of the principles of sovereignty and brotherhood among peoples was invoked, as well as Matanzas’ tradition of honoring its sons who fell on internationalist missions.
Operation Honor and Glory was carried out simultaneously in all provinces of the country, as an expression of national unity and support for the memory of the combatants, whose legacy will remain alive in the history and conscience of the Cuban people.
