Pending maintenance, Guiteras remains stable.
While waiting for the completion of parts, pieces and advice to undertake the maintenance that will allow the intervention of the regenerative air heaters, among other elements, the workers of the Antonio Guiteras thermal power plant keep the unit stable.
Engineer Rubén Campos Olmos, general director of the largest unitary block of the Island, said that they are maintaining 235 megawatts of power and so far there are no threats that could jeopardize the stability of the industry.
The maintenance, planned for this weekend, included the replacement of the baskets of the regenerative air heaters, an undertaking which, together with other tasks, will allow the unit to reach 270 megawatts.
When asked about the possibility that the tense situation of the national electric power system might condition the postponement, Campos Olmos ratified that it will be carried out as soon as the necessary logistics are gathered, as part of a policy that avoids over-exploitation of the generating units.
Regarding the expected general maintenance at the end of the year, the specialist commented that the supply work continues, which in many cases is complicated by the fact that the essential elements of the unit are manufactured by the American company General Electric.
Nevertheless, Unión Eléctrica and the companies that will be involved in the shutdown planned for October, are hopeful that the critical route that prioritizes the boiler, turbine and important automatic systems will be fulfilled.
