The surprises of the renewed quintet Atenas Brass Ensemble.
Two recent experiences qualify among the most important of the renewed Atenas Brass Ensemble, a group that continues in the line of brass instruments, with a repertoire that preferably includes Cuban music and especially the rhythms born in this province.
A special moment was when they shared scores and knowledge with the San Lorenzo Children’s and Youth Wind Band from Mexico, during the third Mesoamerican and Caribbean Congress held in this city.
Also, the recital offered at the José White Concert Hall, in which they showed the public their musical skills and the incorporation of histrionic passages that gave freshness to the show.
The producer of the group, María Isabel Tamayo, has expressed that they work in an open programming, which extends to the popular councils of the territory. «They are talented young people, whose essential purpose is to defend Cuban music, without undermining the interpretation of international classics,» she said.
«The current cast of the Atenas Brass Ensemble quintet is composed of Dayron Jiménez, trombone and director; Nolvis Castañeda, horn; Félix Tápanes, tuba; and trumpet players Adrián Cardoso and Andy Tápanes, graduates of the Professional School of Music and with the legacy of maestro Adolfo Horta.»
In statements to the press, conductor Jiménez indicated:
«We are not musicians behind a music stand, but those who project themselves scenically. We transmit emotions not only with the music, but also with our corporal development. We have two new instrumentalists, both with trumpets, since the previous ones, professor and conductor Rodolfo Horta, founder of the quintet, and the active Duliesky Diez, moved on to other functions.
«These current musicians express much interest in working in this new line of the group and incorporate characters that are liked by the auditoriums.»
Among other relevant places where they have performed are the Pharmaceutical Museum, the Casa de la Memoria Escénica, the Parque de la Libertad and the Concilio de las aguas spaces, plus the peña of the Ermita de Monserrate cultural complex.
In addition to their performative character, they are serious about perfecting their interpretations, with the possibility of growing as a group and soloists within the jazz movement of Matanzas.
This famous quintet emerged in February 2014 and managed to have more than 400 arrangements to themes of various genres of classical, popular and dance music.
