Carilda Oliver Labra is one of the most significant symbols of the city of Matanzas, her greatness goes beyond the limits of the city to become an emblem of Cuban citizenship and patriotism.
The day of homage to the 102nd anniversary of the National Prize for Literature, Carilda Oliver Labra, concluded in her house of Tirry 81 with the inauguration of the photographic exhibition that gathers in a chronological way her influential trail through this land.
The exhibition makes an impact from the lobby of the house, presenting in several rooms 70 photographs with images of the poetess from Matanzas, her beauty from childhood to her last days, in black and white portraits, exponents of the contrasts of her face and the multiple encounters with Cuban and international personalities and of all social strata.
Her modesty and attention to the people who loved her was well known, in this her hometown, when in her poems and writings, in direct contact with the population, she knew how to reflect, besides her erotic lyricism, the social reality that she had to live in almost a century of existence. No event was alien to him.
Poet Raidel Hernández Fernández, executor of the poet’s cultural heritage and president of the project Al sur de mi garganta, expressed his satisfaction with the quality of the exhibition, impressive from the entrance to the rest of the rooms that also exhibit objects and manuscripts of the unique writer, who remained in Cuba until her death on August 29th, 2018.
Hernandez praised the special concert that the award-winning pianist Franco Rivero Bueno and other guests gave him at the Sauto Theater, a National Monument, that same afternoon.
Present at both events were authorities of Culture, the Provincial Center of Books and Literature, the UNEAC and the Hermanos Saíz Association, among other figures of the artistic movement in the territory.
