The XII Congress of the Union of Young Communists (UJC) will take place next April 4th, in which delegates from the country will participate, under the premise «Create your happiness», as an invitation not only to evaluate the complex problems of the Cuban reality, but also to think about the country they want to build, according to the own words of the first secretary of the organization, Aylín Álvarez García.

Prior to the Congress, strengthening processes were carried out in more than 25 thousand grassroots organizations in the country, with the renewal of about 36 percent of the general secretaries and 64 percent ratified.

In addition, 178 municipal balances were carried out in the nation, corresponding to 168 municipalities and ten districts.

With the provincial Assembly held in Matanzas on February 9, thirteen of these processes were carried out in Cuba, spaces where the organic functioning, the defense of the Homeland and the management of social networks and content positioning were discussed.

The meeting was attended by 199 delegates and elections were held for delegates to the National Congress and the new provincial secretariat of the UJC. Alvarez Garcia described the Matanzas experience as an «Assembly of commitment from doing», where young people from Matanzas demonstrated that it is possible to transform and seek better results in the functioning of the organization and the fulfillment of its mission.

The Congress from Matanzas

The Twelfth Congress of the UJC will critically evaluate the exemplarity and combativeness of the militancy, the responsibility of the organization in the political leadership of its structures, its role as political vanguard and its contribution to the economic and social development of the country.

The municipality of Matanzas carried out an exhaustive work prior to the great event. According to its municipal balance report, the strengthening process was carried out in the 135 grassroots organizations with the presence of 738 militants. In the same, 134 general secretaries were ratified, which constitutes a strength for the work of the UJC.

Among the work projections agreed upon, the following stand out: the improvement of the policy of cadres, through a better work of attention, selection and preparation of the reserve and the elevation of the cultural level of the cadres; the work in the process of growth and construction; the formation of the militants and the attention to the Organization of Pioneers José Martí, the Federation of High School Students and the Federation of University Students.

Likewise, the UJC of the head municipality agreed to continue attending to the battle against crime, corruption, illegalities and social indiscipline, with the demand and control of the leadership structures and the militancy, and to play the role that corresponds to them as vanguard to maintain the conquests of the Revolution.

A better youth

The Young Communist League is the youth political organization of the Communist Party of Cuba, heir and bastion of Cuban revolutionary thought, expressed throughout the struggles for independence.

The work of the young militants takes place in a grassroots organization, carrying out different tasks, acquiring experience, to become a paradigm for other young people, with the commitment to be better revolutionaries every day.

From Matanzas, the municipal secretary of the UJC, Yasiel López Seoane, shared details on the preparation of the young communists from Matanzas on the road to the organization’s big meeting next April.

Aylín Álvarez García, first secretary of the organization, in her words to the press on the organic process prior to the congress, stressed that «the greatest task in these times lies in motivating a greater number of young people so that they can find the realization of their life projects within socialism and thus build their happiness together.»

This premise is contained in the Policy for the Integral Attention of Children, Adolescents and Youth in Cuba and in the draft amendment to the Regulations and Bylaws of the UJC, which will be presented and submitted to vote at the Congress in which several delegates from Matanzas will participate.
