The University of Medical Sciences of Matanzas is preparing the launching of La Puerta Violeta, a space oriented to the development of a culture of peace and non-violence. This project, which is linked to the Women’s Chair and the Department of Psychology, seeks to integrate research actions that contribute to doctoral results.
The initiative underscores the university’s commitment to the integral formation of its students and their involvement in the resolution of social and health problems in the community.
Dr. Yalenis Velazco Fajardo, president of the Women’s Chair of the Yumurina University, emphasizes that La Puerta Violeta will not only be a place of transformation within the university, but also seeks to have an impact beyond its walls.

«This space will offer trainings and courses, fostering the development of knowledge and skills in Medical Science students. Since they will become future Health professionals, their role in social transformation and in addressing problems such as violence is crucial», referred the psychologist.
In addition to its educational function, La Puerta Violeta will also offer psychological care and multidisciplinary support to people affected by violence.
«This space is designed to be a refuge that allows personal growth and emotional reconstruction, addressing various manifestations of violence that affect individuals and communities,» explained Fajardo Velazco.
«The research dimension of La Puerta Violeta is fundamental. By focusing on the visibility of violence as a social health and human rights problem, the initiative seeks to generate a significant impact using a community and outreach approach. This highlights the importance of on-the-job education, which is key in the training of students from the first year, as it enables them to be agents of change in their communities.
«The project is also a comprehensive effort to promote a culture of peace, addressing violence not only as a health problem, but also as a social challenge that must be confronted holistically. Through these actions we hope to improve well-being in the province, favoring the creation of happier and violence-free communities», concluded the researcher and professor.
La Puerta Violeta represents a visionary initiative of the University of Medical Sciences of Matanzas that integrates education, psychological support and community action, aspiring to build a more peaceful and equitable society. With this proposal, the university reaffirms its commitment to social transformation and the promotion of human welfare.
