VI Conference of the Combatants Association meets in Pedro Betancourt.

The event was dedicated to the 170th, 209th and 129th anniversaries of the birthdays of Juan Gualberto Gómez and Mariana Grajales and the Combate de Peralejo, respectively, as well as to the National Rebellion Day.

The VI Municipal Conference of the Association of Combatants of the Cuban Revolution (ACRC) in Pedro Betancourt was held in order to evaluate the work of the organization during the previous five years and to establish work projections for the coming five years.

At the meeting, Roger Almeida Rodriguez, provincial president of the Association, congratulated those present for their work during the period and urged to strengthen the material and spiritual care to the combatants and their families and to energize the internal functioning, organization and communication system of this structure in the town.

For his part, Lázaro Calvo Medina, president of the Argelio Zamora grassroots association and of the Patriotic Chair of the municipal headquarters, recognized the importance of increasing the number of members of the organization, rejuvenating its ranks and promoting in the educational centers the cult of history and of the local combatants.

During the activity, the outgoing president, Raúl Ibáñez Calvo, received an award for his outstanding work at the head of the Association.

In his speech, associate Pascual Santovenia Pérez pointed out the need to prioritize the political-ideological work and the patriotic conscience in young people, as well as the speed in the training of veteran members and their relays, regarding the fight against subversion from the cyberspace.

Precisely, Ledianys Mejías González, secretary of the Union of Young Communists, highlighted the constant support of the youth to the actions of the Combatants Association, in order to preserve the living history of the Revolution through educational talks, student bastions, intergenerational meetings, among other initiatives.

Likewise, the delegates to the VI Provincial Conference and the thirteen members of its Municipal Directorate were established, with the election of José Ramón Cartaya Marrero as president of the local executive and the honoring of the outgoing Raúl Ibáñez Calvo for his dedication and positive results at the head of the organization.

Those present discussed the central report and shared their ideas and proposals for the improvement of the organization.

The meeting was also dedicated to the 170th, 209th and 129th anniversaries of the birthdays of Juan Gualberto Gómez and Mariana Grajales and the Combat of Peralejo, respectively, as well as to the National Rebellion Day; and became a scenario to condemn the genocide perpetrated against the Palestinian people by the Israeli government, the tightened blockade against the Island and its inclusion in the list of countries sponsoring terrorism.
