When Energy Reaches Your Roof.

In the province of Matanzas, the installation of photovoltaic systems in homes and institutions is progressing in a hopeful manner, as part of a national program that seeks to protect essential services and alleviate the burden on the National Electric System.

In the province of Matanzas, the installation of photovoltaic systems in homes and institutions is progressing promisingly, as part of a national program aimed at protecting essential services and easing the burden on the National Electric System.

In the residential sector, priority is being given to installing solar panel power plant modules for homes, with capacities of 1,200 and 800 watts, each kit including a battery.

Thanks to this initiative, 150 homes of healthcare workers and 165 homes of education workers, for a total of 315 houses, will receive their own photovoltaic systems, allowing them to guarantee minimum conditions for studying, resting, and receiving medical care.

The state-owned company Soluciones CEDAI Atenas has already begun installing new solar kits in six municipalities of Matanzas: Matanzas, Martí, Perico, Jovellanos, Pedro Betancourt, and Unión de Reyes.

A total of 326 two-kilowatt solar panels will be installed, distributed among 159 isolated homes and 176 essential service centers, including 13 maternity homes, 11 nursing homes, 28 senior centers, 19 funeral homes, as well as 32 polyclinics, 26 branch offices, 39 commercial offices, and eight communications centers. This strengthens the province’s capacity to respond to any energy contingency.

If we only consider the systems reported in this first phase—315 workers’ homes, plus the 159 isolated homes and the 176 essential service centers with two-kilowatt panels—the installed rooftop capacity in Matanzas easily exceeds half a megawatt, not counting other initiatives or solar farms connected to the grid.

To this figure must be added the contribution of bank branches and other entities that have already begun to convert their energy sources to photovoltaic panels.

Nationwide, the National Electric Union has reported that, aside from photovoltaic solar parks, more than 12 megawatts of power have already been installed on the rooftops of institutions and homes, and Matanzas is actively contributing to this achievement with its projects in homes and key facilities.

For the residents of Matanzas, this translates into better protection for polyclinics, maternity homes, funeral homes, and financial services during this challenging time, as well as a growing number of homes that are beginning to see solar energy as a viable source of power directly on their roofs.
