An audiovisual material summarizing the work of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC), which is about to celebrate its 63rd anniversary, kicked off the meeting between the provincial secretariat of the organization in Matanzas and a representation of women managers, specialists and workers in the legal sector in this western territory.

The event hall of the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office was the setting chosen to discuss and highlight the strengths, results and best experiences of the working relationship between the FMC and the organs of the judicial system in order to achieve full equality for women and the welfare of the Cuban family.

The pleasant exchange included discussions, the life stories of women dedicated to the work of the Provincial People’s Court (TPP), the Prosecutor’s Office and the Directorate of Justice (DPJ), as well as the presentation of awards to these institutions that stand out for the majority presence of women, who represent more than 80 percent of their workforce.

Daysis Ramírez Naranjo, Chief Prosecutor of the province, spoke about the benefits of alliances with women’s organizations in order to achieve more effective social prevention work and greater citizen welfare and praised the work of the Women’s and Family Guidance Centers where priority is given not only to identifying cases of gender violence or domestic conflicts but also to following up on them.

Also noteworthy and moving was the intervention and personal experience told by the prosecutor María Esther Alfonso Muñoz, who was honored for her relevant trajectory of joint work, advice and close collaboration with the FMC.

Special tribute was also paid to María Elena Lacera García, current head of the TPP’s Cadre Department, who for more than 30 years held various positions in the FMC in Matanzas territory and served as Secretary General.

In the exchange between the main cadres of the women’s organization and the jurists from Yumurina, there was no lack of evaluations about the National Program for the Advancement of Women, the innovative work of the family courts, the participation in the neighborhood debates with the purpose of raising the legal culture around the Family Code and other challenges that are a priority for the FMC.

At the end of the meeting, where the entities of the legal sector were declared as reference centers of the FMC’s Eleventh Congress, Rosmery Santiesteban Lago, second general secretary of the women’s organization in the country, emphasized that even though policies that favor mothers and working women have been achieved, there is still a long way to go and to achieve in favor of the empowerment of all Cuban women.

Just a few hours before its 63rd birthday, the FMC in Matanzas recognized the work and permanent accompaniment of the institutions of justice in the battle for equity and the well-being of Cuban families.
