On Wednesday night, Matanzas defeated Santiago de Cuba for the second consecutive time in the beginning of the II Elite League of Cuban Baseball.
In spite of the fact that the locals batted fourteen hits, three more than the Cocodrilos, the visitors knew how to take advantage of the opportunities to win with a score of six runs by five.
Rusney Castillo became the man of the match after hitting three hits, driving in two runs and scoring one. It is worth mentioning that only Aníbal Medina was hitless in the ninth in the starting lineup of Armando Ferrer’s team.
The starter Yamichel Pérez could not contain the Santiago offense by allowing nine hits and three clean runs, so the victory went to the Pinar del Río reliever turned backup, Frank Luis Medina.
Armando Dueñas worked the final two innings to score a save.
Santiago de Cuba used four pitchers, and it was reliever Yosiel Serrano Rivera who was defeated in the game.
With this victory, Matanzas has been the only team to win its first two games of the II Elite Baseball League. Today Thursday night at 6:30 PM, Avispas and Cocodrilos will meet again.
