Works Selected for the 2026 Roberto Diago Provincial Salon.
The Roberto Diago Salon is much more than a competition; it is a pillar that honors history, drives the present and projects the future of the plastic arts in Matanzas, by keeping alive the avant-garde in what is considered the cradle of Cuban modernism.

The jury for the Roberto Diago Provincial Salon 2026, opening on March 6, selected 37 works by 33 artists from a total of 47 submitted by 44 artists.

The jury, composed of Vilma Roque, Yamila Gordillo, and Patricia Muñoz, honors the legacy of painter and engraver Juan Roberto Diago Querol, born in 1920 and died in 1955, a key figure in the history of Cuban art.
Diago Querol co-founded the Matanzas Provincial School of Fine Arts in 1945 and laid the foundations for art education in the region.

According to experts, the Roberto Diago Salon is much more than a competition; it is a pillar that honors history, drives the present, and projects the future of the visual arts in Matanzas, keeping the avant-garde alive in what is considered the cradle of Cuban modernism.
It is also valued as essential for the development of diverse artistic expressions in the region and a channel for showcasing the most recent creations, especially those of young artists, as it promotes experimentation and a renewed vision by including techniques such as installations, performances, photography, and video art.
The works selected for the 30th Roberto Diago Provincial Salon 2026 will open its doors next Friday, March 6, at 3:00 p.m. in the Pedro Esquerré Art Gallery, where the well-deserved 2025 Provincial Visual Arts Prize will be awarded to the distinguished artist Adrián Socorro Suárez.
