A Lecture in Tune with the Matanzas Book Fair
The Matanzas Pharmaceutical Museum also received during the current book festival the figure of Doctor Ercilio Vento Canosa for the delivery of the Keynote Lecture «The History of the Book and the Triumph of the Alphabet.»
According to the speaker, originally the title of the lecture was «The Dawn of Matanzas,» but on the occasion of the current literary gathering, he considered it more appropriate to share the origins of the book as well as the alphabet.
«The Dawn, without a doubt, is a newspaper with significant historical and documentary relevance, but for this occasion I decided to combine these other two stories that constitute great achievements of humanity,» he explained.
For the City Historian in the territory, the possibility of reading a language capable of containing multiple words and characters is a magical fact that should be even more appreciated in our days.
During the lecture, the maestro also posed some grammatical enigmas — an attraction he meticulously prepared.
Vento Canosa admitted that the development of the lecture became a challenge for him from the moment he reconsidered its beginning, content, and duration.
This discourse, which incorporated predominant elements related to the birth of the handwritten book and the triumph of the alphabet, fostered an atmosphere of reflection and debate.
The professor’s presence in spaces dedicated to the 34th International Book Fair in the city reaffirms his status as one of the personalities honored in this edition.
