Hepatitis Outbreak Alerted in Cidra.
Among the recommended hygiene measures to prevent hepatitis are boiling water before consumption; properly chlorinating water sources; washing hands frequently; and maintaining proper hygiene in food preparation and storage.

Specialists from the Manuel «Piti» Fajardo Municipal Center for Hygiene and Epidemiology in this region have reported an outbreak of hepatitis in the town of Cidra, with eleven confirmed cases so far, presumably linked to water quality issues.
According to statements by the municipal health director, Raidel Sotes Carrera, the outbreak was identified last Saturday, and epidemiological surveillance protocols were activated immediately.
«The outbreak is directly related to water, so we are working closely with the municipal team,» he explained.
The official detailed that of the eleven reported cases, eight are concentrated in the area known as Tacón and three in other areas. The cases are spread across several city blocks, with the highest incidence in Block 36. Only one case involves a school-aged child, while the rest are not linked to educational institutions.
Sotes Carrera indicated that the delivery of hypochlorite has been coordinated to intensify water chlorination, the primary preventative measure in these types of outbreaks.
“Promotional and preventative measures are ongoing, as the exact source of contamination has not yet been confirmed,” he stated.
Among the hygiene measures recommended to prevent hepatitis are boiling water before consumption; properly chlorinating water sources; washing hands frequently, especially before handling food and after using the restroom; and maintaining proper hygiene in food preparation and storage.
