Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples calls for a Day for Peace and Against the Blockade.
The call for solidarity is clear: united, we can amplify the global demand for a future without blockade and terrorism, in defense of universal peace.
The Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) launched an international call to participate in the Day for Peace, against the Blockade and Terrorism. This event, which will begin on September 4th, will last until the vote in the United Nations General Assembly on the draft resolution that seeks to put an end to the US economic blockade against Cuba.
In these times, the text refers, when peace is threatened and the world seems to be approaching a possible new global conflict, the day is presented as an opportunity for people from all regions of the planet to unite around fundamental principles such as justice, equity and mutual respect.
One of the central motivations of this call is to demand the immediate cessation of what ICAP describes as the genocide of the Palestinian people at the hands of the State of Israel, with the complicity of Western nations. Likewise, the urgent call focuses on the need to put an end to the economic, commercial and financial blockade that the government of the United States has imposed on Cuba for more than six decades, causing profound suffering and limiting the development of the country.
ICAP denounces the blockade as a true act of war and terrorism. It also criticizes the unilateral designation of Cuba as a State Sponsor of Terrorism, calling it a «vile lie» that seeks to discredit the commitment of the Cuban Revolution to peace and international cooperation.
The day, which will have multiple activities also in the province, according to statements by Marlene Lovio Diaz, an official of the provincial delegation of the Institute, aims to mobilize activists, students and members of civil society in Matanzas, in awareness-raising activities in physical and virtual spaces, including demonstrations, debates and cultural events, among other initiatives.
The call emphasizes that every action and every voice is vital to advance towards a more just world, where respect for human rights and the dignity of peoples prevail.
The call for solidarity is clear: united, we can amplify the global demand for a future without blockade and terrorism, in defense of universal peace.
